Glad you're okay. My dad ignored all the warnings and figured he was feeling too bad to attend a doctor's appointment that he happened to have that day. My mother badgered him in to going. The nurse was very concerned when dad walked in and got the doctor. They took all his vitals and asked dad how he felt. After replying that he "Felt like the bad side of hell" they took him to the emergency room downstairs where he had a quadruple bypass and a heart valve replacement. He recovered and is still kicking seven years later.

Listen to your body, your wife, and pay attention to the way you live. Eat right and get regular exercise. You got a long time to go.

I am glad that you are now all right. And the first thing I thought was, "Charlie would be devastated if anything happened to him!"

Duncan's right about listening to your body and to others. Someone in my family...he was going to wait until he "felt better", but the wife badgered him...yes, there was an ambulance...and yes, immediate surgery was involved.

Over ten years have now passed and all's well!

Possibly you can now help some of us. How persistent was the shortness of breath? Was that the only symptom at the time?

Good idea Duncan. In 2010 I had shortness of breath to the extent that walking 5 stairs was a burden. One Dr. initially said it was pneumonia, but it did not go away so finally I saw a cardiologist and after an EKG and Echo on the heart, he said, oh, I should be in the hospital like, oh, NOW. So in go and wound up owning a stent, had a 95% blocked artery. That was five years ago. In December of 2015, we drove north to visit new grand-daughter, 10 month old, and just prior to this drive I began to have short breath again, not bad and it came and went ... but up THERE it came back with a vengeance. Now, going to hospital in NJ while living in Georgia is a logistical nightmare, so I chose to survive, drive back to Georgia where Emory has the BEST people in the country. I saw my GP first who said that, oh, I should be in the hospital, well, NOW. So back I went and this time, stent is fine, artery is fine, just a weak heart from eating crap food. Diet change, one coffee a day, etc and wearing an external defib.
