20 Year Not Alone Anniversary

Postby Duncan Edwards » Sun Feb 22, 2015 4:51 pm

I've been trying to work out the exact date but I'll never forget the moment. I'm pretty sure it was twenty years ago tonight that I discovered I was not alone in my QS/Mud fetish interest. Out of curiosity I typed "quicksand" into AltaVista and saw a list of responses about metaphors, bands, songs, and then, "What is this? The Quicksand Page? Huh? Couldn't be."

Speechless silence as each line revealed itself at 9600 bps. At the bottom of the page was Shaun from Messyfun in a red dress up to her hips. Next to it was a line linking to the ASFWAM usenet group and a line "For those who LIKE quicksand" or something to that effect.

I can date my entire life from that moment. My heart nearly exploded as I dug deeper and I did not sleep for the next three days. (Seriously) I tore up the internet from one end to the other looking for more. More. MORE. I found Chuck Lang, Messyfun, Splosh magazine, Kaol's stories, Jiminy Thicket, and Dave's MPV BBS in short order. There was a new center to my universe and it has not changed in twenty years as of tonight. I never, in my wildest dreams, have imagined what it would all lead to. Since then I've been all over creation with Dave, Fred, Chuck, Kaol, Pam and Robert, Kristine and Lance, Nessie, met many others of you, stood behind cameras for hours of video that I still can't believe I'm seeing at times, taken tens of thousands of photos for many, had more than a few adventures, and met some incredible ladies, in pursuit of all that. In the aggregate it's all been wonderful. All of it.

Don't ever think your life can't take that turn. What would have happened but for a little chance?
It's a dirty job but I got to do it for 27 years. Thank you.

And a job well done at that. :)

Yea, opportunities go hand in hand with discovery. Life is too short to turn your back on either.

I never expected mud to be a fetish that anyone shared, either. I was a few years behind you in finding it, though. I don't even remember the name of the first site I found, though it was likely Rob Blaine's site.

I'm maybe still a bit out there on this forum, in that *I* want to be the person in the mud. ;-) If there's a nice looking woman or two in there with me, all the better. Even more fun if they need me to rescue them!

Glad you were situated where you could make the contributions you've made to this sort of fun. I could wish you were as local as Fred, so I could help with your shoots, too.

It was 1999 for me. I was scouring for anything stuck-related and decided to run a search on quicksand, and Lo and Behold, I fell into Kaol's Sinkin' Hole. Through that I found Stuck Girls and it's been a wild gooey ride ever since 8-)

I doubt that very much. It's just that this forum is full of heterosexual men, and that means that us girls get all the publicity.

I am personally sure that there are actually are more men in quicksand than women. Really.

I haven't been alone since 2000 now.

All I can tell you is, right up until the very day before I bumped into Kaol's page and felt my heart stop...

"You mean Mother Nature actually made another one?"

and began a wild frenzy of hunting down this community, if anyone had ever told me I would not only have a place to freely discuss it but would actually embark on a brief filming career concerning quicksand, I would have said they were crazy and that I could not possibly do any such thing.

By the way, except for my quicksand thing, there is absolutely nothing about how I've lived that's noteworthy. My non-quicksand existence certainly wouldn't be a best-selling book or a hit movie or anything.

Now that fifteen years have passed since I've been not-alone, the strangest thing of all is that I've settled into a state where my "quicksand thing" feels just as ordinary as everything else.

It has probably been a bit less time for me - like 16-17 years - since I found out "others" have similar interests. I started out just "lurking" - then wrote a few stories, did some initial photos - and then a video - and then...

Of all the fetish communities I've come in contact with, this one has been the nicest, most professional, supportive one. I've met fellow producers, sinkers, explorers, etc. Not to mention many models, who have also become friends. For instance, Leila Hazlett and Ludella Hahn - our first shoots together were quicksand related. We've done a lot of other things since then (and, of course, I sold my business to them) - but they have also become friends, too. I never expected that to happen.

While I am more freelance these days - and hoping to help others out this coming summer with photography - I expect that other opportunities will arise to meet more of you - and I welcome that.

How many of us were startled when we were blasted off our computer chairs (made of mammoth bones and Aurochs leather back then) by a woman screaming "Help me, I'm in quicksand!" followed by the haunting strains of the MIDI version or "Red Rubber Ball"? :) Kaol's site was my introduction. I never imagined that I'd end up working shoots with a couple of our producers, and hanging out with a few of the models (some of whom I keep in touch with outside of the "QS Community." Likewise with some of the folks from the community- they've become part of my "Facebook Family." Like some of the other guys in the community, I am a "doer" as well as a "watcher."

I could go on for pages reminiscing and praising my fellow quicksanders. But, let me just say that as soon as I hit the lottery, I'm buying a gravel pit, and a bunch of you (the no-drama, minimally annoying ones) are getting round-trip transportation, deluxe accommodations, and I am hosting a HUGE mud party/mud Fetcon. 8-)

I still get positively GIDDY whenever I think of this community, especially my discovery of it! I'm very grateful for those brave pioneers of quicksand web sites.

Yeah, since my quicksand interest pre-dates the Internet, I'm still more blown away about the Internet in general :D

Dear Fans of Quicksand Online Discovery Moments:

Yes! I remember, too. Probably a year or two before Duncan got on. Don't know the date or time, it was in the evening and I finally got my home computer and could plug into the telephone and go see this "Internet" everyone was talking about. I had heard all kinds of stories about all the information available "on line" from all over the world. And it became then and has remained a major part of my work. So I had the equipment at last.

I don't know why "quicksand" jumped into my head as I first got hooked up. I only expected to find maybe a few Hollywood photos of women in quicksand -- surely nobody would have the same feelings I had of sexual arousal from women in quicksand??

And them my old Netscape showed a variety of quicksand sites, and going to one (anyone remember Quicksand Paradise?), I found the most extraordinary photos, most by Chuck Lang, that thrilled me no end. And Kaol -- Kaol and his wonderful site that grew and grew. And The Quicksand Page. And the WAM site which actually had a few clips of women in quicksand from classic (and not-so-classic) movies. (This was still in the dark ages where downloading a movie would take about six months, if you could do it all...)

I too stayed up until 3 or 4 in the morning "surfing". And did so the following day, too, and the next. I was very afraid of becoming "addicted" to the Internet, something I would have thought absurd.

But here I am. Still enjoying the QSFan group and the websites and the videos and the photos.

Thank you, All! I consider you all great friends! :D
