They get saved for me. I looked for a way to shut the feature off and couldn't find one.
You could PM yourself and watch your "sent" messages to see if it's working right.

It will only be moved to your Sent Items folder after the recipient reads it -- until then, it will be in your Outbox folder, and fully editable.
It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.
