Yeah, that's more of a dumping ground for images... Which is fine, because that's all I look for in a "group" on there, anyway.

Well, let me insert my 5 kopeks into the discussion one more time
A little bit of offtopic information. In Soviet times 5 kopeks was the price for one trip in any subway of the USSR - including Moscow subway where such trip could be 40 kilometers long. % kopeks (0.05 rouble) were equal approximately 0.07 US$ by official exchange rate and approximately 0.005 US$ on the black market

I don't pretend that you should price my opinion higher

Many people here follow a simple logical chain.
Quicksand -> Fetish -> Sexual Fetish -> Adult stuff -> No kids
On my opinion there are several stops, turns and crossroads on this way, but many people follow it straight from the very beginning till the very end, thus reducing the logical chain to simple
Quicksand -> No kids
Despite there are many people who think so, I insist that it is not the only possible opinion. There are people who think differently. The policy of QuicksandFans which wasn't clearly reflected in the rules but was several times emphasized by the admins (and/or moderators) is to be friendly to all those who are interested in quicksand and related things. So why we are so harsh to the people who don't want to mix quicksand and quicksand porn? Maybe for somebody it is one and the same thing, but for many others these things are very, very different. That's why I think that such statements as
Mynock wrote:JT and Foster decided to rename their place "Quicksand Kiddie Land"...
are rather impolite and clearly demonstrate unfriendliness to a significant part of quicksand community.

Let's admit, QuicksandFans is a playground for a large group of people interested in quicksand, DeepSinking is a playground for another (not so large) group of such people, and while these groups overlap, there are people who keep separately. I believe, we still have to respect each other and don't pretend that any particular opinion is one and the only that is true. And most of the people who stay at DeepSinking.org are not kids.

I can speak about myself, for example. Let's say, for me quicksand (or, in traditions of my part of the world, deep mud, bog, quagmire) is not simply and truly sexual fetish. Yes, it has such component, too (say, I prefer to see female victims, and let's say the truth - young, adult, sexy women - and this means a lot). But despite quicksand has such influence on me, it is not one and the only influence. For me, quicksand always means pounding heart, but only in some cases is a sexual turn on.

For me, primarily, it is fear of becoming stuck, trapped, overpowered. It is fear of becoming helpless as a victim, but even worse - of becoming helpless as a would-be rescuer. I love real life stories with stuck and rescued people - children included - and I rarely find any sexual flavor in such stories. I like scientific approach, all those experiments, demonstrations, simulation, especially when they are really scientific and not clearly intended to call more funds for local coast guard or whoever has to extricate all those trapped tourists. And on the contrary, I don't like too sexualized stories, especially when they contain graphic (i.e. pornographic) descriptions.

I so miss the old 'Quicksand Page' and 'Captain Mangrove' sites... (Of course, there were no corners that I hadn't investigated there, so I would need something new. But there is no such new places... )

Where? I had a quick look through this thread before I posted this and couldn't find anything? Are you referring to Duncan's post?

You make some valid points about the courtesy issue and it isn't always a sexual fetish to everyone. In the context of what was going on at the time at deepsinking though it didn't add up. I've already posted what was a big reason for why things changed but people continue to espouse different guesses without any real support. I know what I posted was true in large part because Dave came along and confirmed it later but still some don't want to pay attention to that. I think there are two reasons why -

1. The moderators at DS never came out and said so in a simple fashion. A couple of sentences would have done the trick.

2. This is the big one - DS had become a home that many of us felt we shared and did not understand why all but a small number were basically being told to pack up their toys and leave. Up until the moment of the first announcement it was a sexual fetish board and then in one motion it was as if someone announced the Playboy mansion was being converted to a kindergarten. Most of us had a very difficult time understanding that. Especially those who felt they had contributed at least something to the place. (I don't mean financially) This was and remains very difficult for some.

Deepsinking.org was operated by Dave Lodoski, Jimminy Thicket, and Foster Blake. Dave did a lot of the moderating for adult areas of the board and when he relenquished that duty Foz and JT changed things to their view of what deepsinking should be. Their view did not include "adult" content so a coalition of sorts, Led by Dave, created QSF.

I didn't reference this quote directly because I was trying to point out the fact that many people post to topics without reading all of the preceding posts. You can't stop this behavior, but you can possibly convert a few folks along the way.

Considering that the motto for Quicksandfans is The Home for Quicksand Fetishism on the Internet, the 'No Kids' thing speaks for itself. The fact that there are other paths you can take starting with an interest in quicksand does not justify faulting the adult attitude here. We were set up to have No Kids from the beginning.

Ah, yes - I saw and read Duncan's post. I thought it was very diplomatic and quite clever in the way it was worded where it tells you something but ultimately nothing with regards to what was going on in the background back on the old board.

Not that I feel that anything needs to be divulged as it's ancient history. My original comment still stands though.

Okay friend, and I mean that, what is lacking there? It tells you precisely, explicitly, what was going on. No more, no less. JT and Foz did not want to deal with moderating and managing the daily mess that was the adult neighborhood of DS. I know that was a pain to manage at DS because I was on the phone most nights with Dave listening to what a pain in the ass it was. As much shit as you saw on the screen at DS you didn't see half of what was being managed and moderated to keep things relatively sane there. When I was tasked to be moderator at QSF I was warned like I was entering Hell itself that moderation was going to be a nightmarish job. Fortunately because of the atmosphere that prevails here where the mods don't go searching for trouble and the gang isn't allowed to moderate by posse it was really not a big deal at all.

But getting back to my point I feel certain it would have saved some grief if JT and Foz could have just said something like this. Maybe there is more but this would have been enough. Nobody would have been any happier about it but it would have cut down on more conspiracy theories than Sept. 11. and JFK put together.

Dave, you're looking through the wrong end of the telescope. Who is faulting the adult attitude here? This entire thread has been about people faulting DS for (1) rudely kicking porno out, and (2) turning DS into a quicksand "kiddieland".

Nobody is under any derangement that QSF is anything but a porno site. It stands without you having to pretend somebody is saying anything different. What Billie is trying to say is that some people here have reduced their mental associations down to "if interest in sinking, then must be porno", which, of course, means No Kids. It is the justification for these same people to look at DS as some kind of hotbed of criminal perversion.
