Thanks for the thoughts, Northerner. Sinking, like life, tends to have its good days and bad days... fortunately, my good days do outnumber the bad... ;)

As for leaving the car exposed, I don't like to do that, but in my case I have little choice because of where my sinking spot is located. Fortunately, because it is along a secondary highway in an area with a lot of wood lots and hunting/fishing areas, and no cottages/houses nearby, people don't think twice about seeing someone parked on the shoulder.

There is some prime-looking sinking areas along the major highway near where I live, but I wouldn't dare attempt it... too exposed, and people will be dialing 911 to report your vehicle in a heartbeat. As much as concern for your welfare as it is concern you are trying to break into some place. Still would be hard to explain to the local constabulary.

Ideally, I'd love to find a place where I could park out of sight... but I make do most times. My car incidents this year are the very first time in more than 10 years this has happened to me, so I'm hoping it was a fluke both times.

With parking cars, I'd suggest trying to find a place which feels secure to you, even if you have to walk/bike a bit to get to the place you are checking out...

:)

I kinda find myself wishing I'd sank to my crotch just to see how it felt. It could have been possible. I think the deciding factor that turned me away was some moderate pond-scum smell coming from the muck. It didn't smell utterly revolting, but it was a peculiar decay smell I was not used to. Does some lake / river mud not have a weird smell?

Ihad to park on the side of ther interstate once. i am just reluctant to park on a dead end road I fear it getting blocked somehow.

I drive a truck, throw a couple of old fishing poles in the back. Thats your exscuse, what are you doing? i thought I might go fishing so i checked it out, did you know the lake is dry.

Every mud pit has its own aroma, from very subtle to very pungent. So the next mud pit may be less smelly, or this one might be improved by a rainstorm.
