I finally sank in quicksand! But only knee-deep.

Not really much of an achievement so far as this forum may be concerned, but on my recent vacation I was messing around in the tide pools on a sandy Hawaiian beach and found myself suddenly sinking!

I had stepped off a ridge of sand into a depressed area that was slightly under the surface of the ocean water, where the waves were constantly sucking sand back off this ridge, down into the depression. The quicksand felt warm (I guess it had been recently sucked off the beach or something) and provided a slow sink to knee-deep level! Gave me butterflies in my stomach. I never really been sinking before, despite spending quite a bit of time on beaches.

Being a sort of liquefied sand, it was enough to encase and tickle the legs, but also easy enough to step back out of.

Hooray, Northerner's been knee-deep! Well, it was special to me. Sadly, me playing in the spot quickly washed some of the liquified sand away in the wave action, so it was only about ankle deep. Until that happened I was considering calling out my discovery to see if any beach girls would come partake in my little quicksand party!

I have been to those tide pools many times and never seen anything like that before. Some unique wave action / swirling currents around the rocks of the tide pool must have produced those conditions.

Psst...where creeks flow into creeks or rivers, there is often a "sand pile-up" that stays quick because of the movement. Mine is at the cleanup area at Massivia where a small creek flows into a larger one. That "short quicksand" comes and goes, depending on how deep the creek is and how fast it flows. Sometimes it is hardly there. Others, it's almost up to my knee. I tried to walk through the creek in my "crocs" because it was easier than navigating the weeds, and I almost lost a croc in there.

Barefoot was better.
