I used to know Audrey quite well, nice bloke!

Perhaps I'd better explain that. Someone I used to know was out of work and short of cash, his landlady was going to throw him out as he couldn't pay the rent and needed to become incognito for a while (upset the wrong people). One day he was walking along the street and there was this board up outside this building, the sign on the board read "Casting for parts in "'Little Shop Of Horrors' for a travelling theatre company." He'd never done any acting in his life but thought, what the hell, I've nothing to loose. He got the part of playing the voice of Audrey, the initial tour was scheduled for six month, accommodation provided! I think it ran for quite a bit longer than that. He couldn't believe his luck!

Yes, the guy was a bit of a practical joker. He made up a completely bogus story, phoned up one of our national newspapers and arranged to meet a reporter, he picked a paper with a bad record for checking sources and no scruples. He wasn't expecting much to come of it, but the reporter bought the story (paid quite handsomely for it), next day it was splattered all over the front page, complete with a photo of him. Some of the people the story was about thought it hilarious (even though it caused them a bit of grief) others weren't so happy. Hence the desire to keep his head down for a while. If the paper had done the slightest bit of checking they'd have realised that the story couldn't be true, but they didn't care, they had a story to publish and weren't bothered if the source was unreliable.
