Disney Quicksand Ornament

Postby quikmoose » Wed Jul 16, 2025 2:09 pm

Dear Fans of Quicksand and Haunted Houses:

Those folks at Disney have put out a lot of Halloween stuff.

(Halloween stuff in July?? -- Yes, it's a thing, just check all the YouTube shorts promoting various Halloween collections coming out now...)

Among them is an ornament featuring the three gentlemen sinking into quicksand (from the portrait in the room that sinks down at the beginning of the Haunted Mansion ride).

(Yes, it's all guys -- no pretty women, I'm afraid....)

Here's the link: https://www.disneystore.com/quicksand-m ... 13398.html

If you are a fan of the Haunted Mansion, as I am, you might take a look at the other offerings, although (typical of Disney) they are pricey.

Supposedly, Uncle Walt always wanted a haunted house attraction at Disneyland, but technical difficulties led to the ride being delayed for years. There are now different versions of the ride in the different Disneyland parks.

:)

Being something of a lapsed Disneyphile, I once ran across a video of Walt discussing this with the artists. See if I can find it. 8-)
It's a dirty job but I got to do it for 27 years. Thank you.

Oh yeah, I think I saw it a while ago. From one of the paintings in that tall room. Is this haunted room actually stretching?!
