I don't want to downplay the risk but I've done a lot of fishing/swimming/boating in FL when visiting family, and I've never seen one that didn't actively retreat from a noisy splashy human entering their environment. Only the REALLY huge ones, like 10-12 feet are big enough to consider humans prey.
