UGERTIO wrote:Hi. I've had a little taste of the latest tour update. And I have a question, and a few requests.
Question: When a player writes ‘QUICKSAND’ on the board. What happens to the player is. But if you go to the spa again, it happens to the player again, even if the player does not write anything on the board. Is that the way it's supposed to work?
Request 1: Please add restert button at the bottom of the page, that would be convenient.
Request 2: If possible, can you add other synonyms for the word ‘QUICKSAND’ such as ‘MUD’, ‘SWAMP’, ‘MORASS’, 'quagmire', and similar. Although of course I would like to have separate events for each word, but I realise that this is too much to ask....
And lastly: if possible, please make it so that the letters while writing on the board were in the form of a table, or in general a field for input from the keyboard. It is a bit annoying to scroll up and down the page when entering a name.

And of course, I love the grand tour, I hope for a sequel.

I’ve tried “BOG” and “BOGS” and got the same scenario as “QUICKSAND” Seems to be the same scenario no matter what word you use

There should be different effects for different words, I say.

I like that! Different words take you to different locations

IE: "BOG" or "FOG" takes you to Central Peat Bogs, "MOSS" takes you to Northern Peat Bogs, "MANGROVE" takes you to Mangrove Swamp, etc. Typing in "QUICKSAND" could take you to a random area.

Another idea I just came up with; typing in "PARTY" causes a bunch of naked gals to appear.
Better out than in, I always say.

No, it seems you found a bug. I'll look into it.

Maybe. Admittedly, the current button is pretty useless the way it is placed now. I'll have to try and see if the positioning can be changed easily without breaking anything.

There are a few aliases as others have pointed out.

It is the way it currently is, because Ink does not support any other type of input aside from selecting one of the available choices. It would still be possible to do this, but that would require quite a bit of Javascript programming and it could cause all sorts of unexpected issues. So this could easily amount to many hours of work to get it right and that seems to me more trouble than it's worth.

Hmm, I think I'll keep it the way it is with the aliases. If people teleport elsewhere, there would also need to be new content for those locations that normally cannot be reached without a tour guide. So, it's probably not going to happen.

A party would actually be nice. Hmm...

Hopefully, a little something of inspiration

Also, Happy New Year!

How about marking up the letters into at least a simple HTML table? That would add some convenience. And if it will be possible to enter something from the keyboard, it will be possible to implement a primitive system of saving, but I am thinking too far ahead.

CYOA purists might hate it, but I really yearn for an undo button.

Fixed.

I change it to always stay near the top right corner. So you do not have to scroll back up to get to it.

I don't think Ink supports that.

I do not directly edit any of the HTML in the story. It is all rendered by the Ink engine. So putting in a table - though possible by extending the javascript-code - is not quite that simple. A very simple save system however (with exactly one save state in browser storage) is supported by Ink and should not be hard to enable. I will look into that sometime soon.

But for now, I bring you the new feature that nobody asked for: a light mode for TGS. As you might have guessed, it's the opposite of dark mode. Because, you know, TGS already had a permanent dark mode. But not anymore. The mode is selected automatically to match your system/browser preferences. So you need to look into that and change it to see what the other mode looks like.

Re: News from the Great Swamp! [now featuring TGS Solitaire !?]

And now for something completely different...

I always wanted to publish some sort of game, and I lowered that hurdle for myself to Solitaire-level. ;) While the gameplay is just standard solitaire, you get to enjoy these card designs I came up with. Enjoy! :D
