That place does indeed look nasty. You'd probably only get across it if chose a new route, any encounter with old "footsteps" is likely to halt the progress. Nice set of pictures. Good idea to leave the camera at the side, it probably wouldn't survive unless it was washable!

I personally use a pole with my phone.
You can stick it in the mud easily and everywhere without danger dor your phone/camera.

I use a Gorillapod for my videos. It flexible knobby tentacles can wrap around things. Here is a photo of it in use I found online:

In the end i sunk shoulder-, almost neckdeep. The quickmud(?) all around me was wobbling and bubbles plopping up around me. Lower half of me was really stuck. Did not find a bottom but wiggling/thrashing with my feet and legs did not drive me deeper in.
To get out i really slowly tried and managed to get me into a more horizontal position and let buyoancy do most the work. When i finally did lie on the surface again i was totally exhausted and standing up was impossible as everthing was churned up and way too soft.
Only way to back off and get to solid ground was by sliding/crawling on top of the surface. You can see the trace in the middle/right part of that frame.

Was totally covered in thick gray goo from the chin down! Also that's really some area i would only enter with the mudsuit i'm wearing. Acquo-waders are underneath the suit, otherwise they would have been pulled off. Even the tallest chestwaders would be flooded and turned into a trap.
Hi BogBud
Interesting about your camera giving you problems. Many compact cameras will not record past 30 minutes in one take. I think it's something to do with the unit overheating or something. I found out the disappointing way after long sinks and having to crawl back to the camera only to see it had turned off and the battery was still good.
Those bendy tripods sit on the surface of medium thick mud okay, so now I try and take a camera with me to avoid the annoying long distance footage that can come out of adventuring into unknown bogs!
I also take some time trying to frame the position where I'll end up stuck - maybe a zoom in but not too much as the resolution on my cameras drops as you zoom in. You also get the chance to restart filming if you reach the 30 minute cutoff point and just happen to be stuck chest deep in the thick stuff!
Great bog by the way and love to see some closer pics and vids. Oh, and the thrill of wearing Acquo boots ... what joy

Anya Adler did very recently upload an old video of a girl, exploring a very similar area like mine.
In the beginning there's not much to see. After the 7:00min mark, the serious struggling and sinking starts.
In the end, her boyfriend even instructs her to leave the waders behind.

One of my old favs, nice to see it again!
