He is still with us but now with a story. When we moved to our NYState condo in November, we thought we had an exception for 2 dogs - the rule of the HOA ruled by Nazis is a dog and a cat. NOPE, WE NEVER DID so they down on us with a lawyer and we had to re-home Penny over about 30 min away to my daughter's home in Garrison NY so we comply. Not emotionally fun at all but both dogs seem managing it better than the humans are doing. Our own lawyer is in shock over all this mess and will pay for one of our dogs declared an emotional support dog (I can use my World Trade Center day for this one) thus solving a problem. Wow.

BTW - Charlie is sitting on a chair with a blanket and quite comfortable and Penny seems adapting to her new home well and good. So the humans are handling it worse than the dogs.

I'm glad Penny's doing okay but it is AWFUL that you had to re-home her. And I'm very glad you still have Charlie.

Frankly, I think all dogs are emotional support dogs. And they're perfectly good inhabitants inside a home if the humans in charge make it so.

Give Charlie an extra hug and and a belly rub from me. I do hope this move gets better for you.

I have lived on a street in a neighborhood that has become gentrified. I'm surrounded by million dollar McMansions filled with expatriated foreigners from far off lands like Chicago and Los Angeles. I am one of few hold outs who lives in my 70 year old redneck shack because it's long since paid for and I can't afford to live in my own area otherwise. I have a yard and a dog. That much will never change.

One of the recent arrivals took to social media to suggest we begin discussion about forming an HOA for our area. I'm a quiet guy on my street. I've been there for 27 years now and done just fine. I told them if they wanted to attempt an HOA they had to get past me and that would be unimaginably ugly. And it would be. I suggested an alternative where they could send me $100 a month each to send them all letters telling them what they could do with their own places. They are all transients who will move soon enough. I'll be there until they carry me out. It's my street.

Our lawyer on the closing is super pissed off so she is funding an emotional support dog effort to Penny - meeting next Tuesday. She was mis-represented to by scum lawyers for the seller and is angry. So there is a ton of hope.

When she gives them a choice between spending thousands of dollars in court or letting you have an additional tiny dog, hopefully common sense will assert itself. It's not like they're a pair of Cane Corsos lol.

I've spent the last 10 years in suburbia and it's wearing on me. Need to be back out in the woods where my closest neighbors are a herd of deer. On the plus side though the current place has been a great investment.

Fortunately it shows no signs of gentrifying where I live.

But I dog-sit in one of those gentrified neighborhoods. Everything's new and it's all big. Go down the road from where the dog lives and you'll find a big house with a column shaped like a castle in a pristine landscaped yard.

Every time I come back from dog duty, I am happy to return to my non-gentrified neighborhood full of small-shack-owners just like me who would never dream of whining to an HOA about a few dandelions in somebody else's yard. Where I live, what grows in your yard is what grows. It's natural. It belongs. It grows, you mow it all. Then you're done.

I actually bought a nice coat for dog-walking in the winter so that the gentry in the dog's neighborhood wouldn't think that the pooch is being walked by a cheap thrift-store-shopping slob (the coat is, and I am).

Both Charlie and Penny are now officially emotional support animals - the latter important as they are no longer "dogs" per se and by law outside of the strict interpretation of HOA rules.
