"Everything else is pretty messy"... no pun intended, right? :D

Beautifully drawn. If it was increased intensity of her facial expression you were after, I say you succeeded quite nicely... if she was confident of getting free of the mud's grasp when her ordeal started, she ceratinly looks to have had a major change in her outlook. I like how this comes across as her perhaps walking down a sloping bank of a marshy shoreline and getting stuck in the iron grip of tidal silt. And, after perhaps an hour of considerable, yet futile, struggling, she's within minutes of slipping under the mud's surface... provided the tide doesn't come in and take her first.

I like the small amount of details that really add so much to this piece, such as her hair starting to spread out across the mud's surface as she sinks deeper, the sparse scattering of reeds, the thick ripples in the mire, and the bubbles. Also love how you've given the mud a glue-like consistency as it stretches up and clings to her face, holding her fast and drawing her in deeper. Very nice.

Thanks for sharing!

Nice work!
Really emphasises the 'subject becoming one with the landscape' in a visual sense.
