I have installed clip by set his virus scanner temporary offline, clip is succesfully installed but his stupid system complains about "git"fetch (sigh)

What's the issue with "git fetch", you've been using git all right up to now. I wouldn't expect "fetch" to be a problem, it downloads commits for comparison and checking, you have to run other commands to update the branch.

A branch is a version of a piece of code. For example, if you'd change a piece of python code that would be a branch and before you any updates from the main repository you'd want to check for conflicts. In that case you do a fetch to get the remotely done change and compare before merging the two versions.

The "git pull" command downloads and applies all changes from the remote repository without giving any opportunity to check. Which should be OK in this case as you aren't changing code. If "fetch" is giving problems, I'd guess the "pull" would also have the same issues.
