Toughest thing in the world to get to look and move right. Seems like you are on the right track! :D

Hey Everybody,

Here's my latest test. One thing that can affect how well dynamics like hair and cloth works is the scale of the geometry. I noticed that when I import a poser scene into Lightwave, the scale is pretty small. For example, a poser girl standing upright in Lightwave is about .74 Meters, or about 2.43 feet. Not many girls I know are that short.

When I bring a poser girl into Real Flow to do quicksand, slime, or water, I have to increase the scale of the girl and the other geometry by a factor of 25x to get to fluid to look and act right. So I decided to try that in Lightwave and increased the scene scale by 25, then reran the hair simulation.

Here's the test motion of my Sarah character that I hope to use to do the Sarah's Island movie. A definite improvement, but still not ideal. It still acts funny over the shoulders, but only when it's moving quickly. One thing I may do is simply keep the hair short enough so it never touches the shoulders. I'd prefer not to do that, but there are a lot of good hair styles that go from just short of shoulder length to a bob.

I'll keep at it! 8-)

Oh tosh! Tanya retorted, quicksand churning,
Round her knees, then thighs, then oh dear!
It got intimate with her hips and her panties,
And squished rather funnily up her rear!

Bigger isn't always better ;) .

But in this case, I guess it's a personal preference thing. She looks fine to me as-is. I must admit the animated hair looks a bit freaky though. Something unnatural looking about the motion, but I can't place it.

Truly, the moment I watched the second demo, this cartoon episode immediately popped into mind (yes, I watched too many damn cartoons as a little pup... :D ). No offense intended now...

She's fabulous! :D Leave her as is.

Personally, I find boobs bigger than one's head grotesque... but that's me. I don't judge people's preferences. :)

No such thing as too many cartoons. :) Thanks for the laugh, too. That cartoon was hilarious. :D

Oh, you're absolutely right. The tool I'm using was originally intended to be a cloth simulator. You can adjust the parameters to make it behave differently, and even has some presets that are labeled "hair", but it's not quite there yet I agree. I love Lightwave, but I wish they'd fix this. Other programs have much better hair systems. Hell, Blender's dynamic hair engine is far superior and its free! They just came out with Lightwave 2018, but no joy on any improvements in the hair system.

I'm trying to figure out how to import the girls into Blender, do the hair animation, then export that into Lightwave, but so far no luck there either.

Still, its better than the still geometry based hair. Also, this movement test is meant to flush out these problems. Most of the time, the character is not moving that fast and the hair will act much better.

We'll see...

Hey Everyone,

Here is my latest dynamic hair test. I've decided to forgo strand based hair and instead use the dynamics on the geometry based hair. I've tried doing this before, and it dind't work well, but recently got a new tool that made it work. Check out the clip below! This is exactly how I wanted the hair to behave! :D

Now that I'm there, it's time to get back to animating!
