Quicksand Fans

This is to ask if anyone here has any knowledge or experience in making what I think would be called "prosthetic makeup." For example, there are several stories in the modern Dr. Who series in which people are made up to be bi-pedal cats, and it is not just face paint and whiskers as might be seen in the Cats musical on Broadway.
