Hi, don't get hopes up, this is not the entire missing scene, but while searching youtube I found this compilation of behind the scenes footage. At around 37 minutes there is short clip of George diving head first into the QS. I don't think this has already been posted here?

Shame they went through all that effort just for the scene to be cut.

Maybe food-grade quicksand sets are more tangible and less expensive. However I can’t imagine room-temperature oatmeal and soup thickener would smell any better if a second day of filming was required.

I wonder how much cheaper it would be to use shredded cork like they did for the movie ‘Krull.’ They turned the submarine set from ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’ into a gnarly looking swamp for that flick.

If inexpensive was the sole criteria for such things, the choice would be some sort of pre-existing facility such as my Studio. All they would have to pay for if any significance would be transportation. However, although the cost is a factor for everything, it is not the only thing. For one thing, a pre-existing facility comes with a pre-existing background. For another, producers tend to be picky abot when something is done. Many years ago, for example, I had a series of enquiries from a Swedish company about doing an episode for a series much like HBO Real Sex, but they wanted to come in April, when there could easily be ice on the ground.

Yea, I scanned that from a fan magazine that caught my eye in a supermarket checkout. And that was on a (Relisys) three-pass scanner that required multiple attempts to get the crosshatch/herring bone/interference out of printed material. The whole process probably took a half hour. Nice to see the image still making the rounds though.

As far as the scene goes, word had it that the original edit was screened in front of a test audience and the quicksand didn't go over well with the kiddies. So they cut it out.

It's cool to see George go in. The question I always had (and still do) is how the whole thing started. Maybe someday ....

This was originally broadcast many times on Disney Cable. That's all there is.

That was originally part of a preview article in the Disney channel subscriber magazine. I've since learned that the idea behind the scene was George wakes up from a nap with his dog (elephant) to hear her screaming and arrives as she goes under. He dives in and retrieves her as shown. I don't recall why it was cut but if you've seen the movie there's not much room for any kind of life threatening intensity. Pretty sure they went with the Lion attack scene instead.

That’s one of many factors that can be controlled if they utilize an indoor studio; logistics, weather, time of day, environmental considerations like bugs etc. However when they’re using a perishable food substance as a sinking medium then I imagine the ticking of a clock becomes super pertinent.

In his case, the episode was to be about my studio. Perhaps other, similar locations also, although that was not mentioned. As they seemed to want to interview the people who would be here, they should have ben flexible enough to come when they might actually BE here. It was clear to be they had not done their homework.
