Quicksand Fans

Over the past two years I have encounter two cases where people reported to me that suddenly they could not log in to this or another forum-type website. This also happened to me several years ago. In at least two of the three cases this occured on the day that daylight savings time either began or ended. [The time it happened to me was different.] Daylight savings ends this year on November 3 so this is coming up soon. I believe the problems in all three cases had to do with the system clock in the computer trying to log in being off by enough that the cookies that are set when one logs in expired alost instantly, so that moving to another page within the site failed as though not logged in. While I am not certain how this occured in the two daylight savings cases, in my own case the problem turned out to be a dead mother-board battery.

In any case, the next few weeks might be a good time for people to check the time, and date, displayed on their computers for accuracy.
