Thanks! I am glad you enjoy my videos, and welcome to the board! :D I tend to go sinking alone, although I have had the rare chance to show others around, including MPV. 8-)

I spent many years pouring over maps and satellite/aerial photos, looking for areas with lakes, ponds, streams, creeks, rivers, marshes, meadows, slides (Google Earth/Maps is your friend 8-) ), and if I see something interesting I go there to check it out and explore around. Lots of trial and error, and sometimes return trips to the same areas are in order later in the season and also in subsequent years, in case stuff that was flooded during the first visit may be exposed in a visit later in the year, or in drier years. Slides may have sinkable stuff early in the season and dry out later in the season, or stay soft for longer periods during wet years, although caution has to be taken in slide areas, where land has moved, and may move again, and you don't want to be there when it happens, and you also don't want to make it happen. 8-)

Then there are coastal mudflats/estuaries with clay, silt, or quicksand. However, it is very dangerous for the inexperienced (quicksand/silt can settle and pack like concrete, but if it is pure and clay-free, it can settle and pack even faster), and you have to know the times of the tides. People can easily get stuck and then drown when the incoming tide sweeps over their head. Then, there can be other hazards, such as sharp shells (oyster beds for example) that can cut your feet open, requiring protective footwear, but footwear also changes the dynamics of sinking and can result in you being stuck (movements can also cause you to sink beyond your buoyancy point and all the way under), unless you have the proper experience and know-how to handle mud with footwear, and some are better than others. Rigid footwear are the worst in terms of getting stuck, because of the suction due to lack of flexibility.

There is a global map set up where people pin various sinking locations worldwide. You can find the links to the main locked map and the editable map in this thread:

Hope this helps. 8-)

How do you know when you've found what your looking for? I guess another phrasing would be what do you identify as interesting?

When I go to the areas and look around, if I see mud, I would check it out with a pole to see how deep it is, and/or step into it to see how deep I sink (naked if the area is hidden). It is a lot of trial and error, finding mud of various depths, ranging from completely firm and solid to ultimately soft and bottomless. For quicksand, I tend to look around places that sand/silt may be deposited loosely, such as along a river, or in a slide. I then test it out by walking on it to see if it gives way, pumping my legs to see if I sink or not, and how deep, and if it is firm, pounding the ground with my feet (my quicksand dance) to see if it turns into a waterbed, and then see how deep I sink pumping my legs. The deeper the mud is, the more interesting I find it, and I ultimately look for places that are well over my head. Its "feel" can also affect how interesting I find it. Coarse textured stuff isn't quite as interesting as real fine textured stuff, but if it is deep, it is still interesting. Also, if the coarse stuff burps substantial amounts of swamp gas when disturbed, I also find it more interesting, since it adds to the experience. Also, mud that grabs onto you (like quicksand and silt and extremely thick clay) when you try to escape I find interesting. 8-) But, if quicksand/silt settles and packs around you if you stay in it too long, it is no longer interesting, since it is then solid, and you have a lot of digging to do. :x

Yes! 8-) But, my 2025 season doesn't begin until late July or early August, when water levels drop enough to expose the mud, as long as we get enough dry weather!

I can't wait to see what the new season is going to be like this year! :) It is always a mystery until my first adventure, where I discover the status of things, and then have a good idea of where things are headed, given the weather trends! Glad you have enjoyed the videos, which appeared to be shared on social media from time to time, periodically causing a drastic leap in views of this thread (one day even exceeded 20,000 new views  ), before settling down again!

Stay tuned! 8-)
