Potential New Backgrounds

Over the years I have collected a variety of photos I thought might be useful for backgrounds. Mostly these come from my travels to places like Nova Scotia, Alaska, Yellowstone, and Hawaii. All, however, were taken using a film camera and so were not particularly useful as backgrounds. Very recently, however, I acquired a pretty decent scanner that is able to turn color negatives into jpg files at pretty high resolution. Today I scanned a few of these negatives and I think they came out fairly well - better than the prints I got fifteen years ago.

Anyway, if any of the photo-manipulators here want them, within a few days I should have enough to upload a batch to a server and send you a download link. All I will need is an email address where I can send the link. Just ask.

I scanned 45 images today. When I get to 100 (tomorrow or Wednesday, probably) I will do some final processing and put them into a zipped folder for upload. To save storage space and bandwidth I will most likely reduce these images to about 800 pixels in width. After seeing them if anyone wants the full-sized set they will be available the same way.

I have completed preparation of two zipped folders that will be uploaded to my delivery server tonight. One contains full sized scans of 104 images of mud at various places but mostly at Yellowstone. The other contains the same 104 images but reduced in size to 600 pixels horizontally. Both are free and I will send a download link, after they have been uploaded, to anyone who requests one. The reason for the reduced size is to save on the amount of data to be downloaded. The full sized set is 416MB, whereas the reduced size set is 11.6MB. If data consumption matters you may want to look at the images in the reduced set and then request the full size if think you can use them.

All 104 images are scans of negatives that are more than a decade old. I used the "dust removal" filter when scanning but that is far from perfect and many of these images have dust marks that we all took for normal when we used film.

All of the images bear a copyright notice embedded in the EXIF metadata in each file. Permission is granted to members here to use the images as backgrounds in photomanips with the proviso that proper credit is given.

To request this folder of images just send an email to Fred588@gmail.com. I will need an email address where I should send the download link.

Links have been sent to everyone who requested them, EXCEPT to one person who used the internal email system. Please send an email directly so I have a direct return address.

Actually, the board's email system sets the "Reply to" field to the sender's email address.

Now that the 400+MB file is on my server I can fill additional requests without having to wait for the midnight to 5AM time slot.
