Some kidnappers have a rather vivid imagination when it comes to demanding a ransom. Not to mention the "Artistic license" on the phrase 'Proof of life'.

Alternatively, here's a version of that scene for those who prefer a more appropriate expression to the situation.
It's easy to imagine that Maisie has been drugged here or is just waking up from being knocked out by some angry natives....
