CYOA: A Lake Without a Name - Part 09

Without further hesitation you grab the large branch and pull hard. It bends but does not break. You lean against it with your entire weight. A few moments later you hear a satisfying cracking noise. Meanwhile the bog has reached the poor girl's chin. Instinctively she is beginning to tilt her head back, dipping more of her blonde ponytail into the muck. "Hurry! I'm going under!" she shouts with a trembling tone.

You want to run towards her with the branch, but it is still clinging to the trunk. You pull and twist the branch to get it loose. The wood is more elastic than you had expected and that crack was only the beginning. Valuable seconds tick by as you keep trying to separate the branch from the tree by twisting it either way. "Please! Don't let me drown here!" she reminds you again, her voice trembling with fear even stronger than before. The young woman's cheeks and ears are slowly disappearing into the morass. Also you only see one of her hands at the surface now, still clinging onto the mud-drenched top. A reminder that her upper body is entirely naked in the bog's tight grasp.

All I can say is... "C'mon, clock! Tick-tick-tick, let's go! Time's a wastin'!
