Your Avatar

Postby Conspiracy101 » Tue Jun 30, 2009 3:03 am

I have begun this thread in search of why everyone has chosen the picture they have for their avatar. How does it represent you? Is it quicksand related, a simple picture of yourself, or something much deeper? (no pun intended, if i even know what that means) Also feel free to comment on each others avatars here.

I would have put this in the general discussion area but because there are those of us without quicksand related avatars i felt i'd play it safe by going to the off topic section. To start things off i'll explain my avatar.

I am an avid gamer. Due to fund restrictions I am xbox 360 only. I play multiple games, but Halo 3 is the most frequent and online is where its at. The game has a feature where you can watch previous games and take pictures from the game. I have hundreds of pics of me and teammates from close to 2 thousand games played. I am constantly looking for the best angle to bring out the heat of the moment. With my avatar seen here, the setting was in-game black and white to set a creepier tone for a zombie style game. Since the avatars only allow so much picture to be shown i felt i should capture that particular angle of my characters facial expression (through a helmet) as I drew my pistol and prepared for the approaching mindless onslaught.

The reason I chose my avatar is quite simple, really . . . .Paris Kennedy is possibly my favourite MPV model. Her quicksand scenes always seem to press the right buttons for me, and she's drop dead gorgeous! :D :D :D

Boba Fett--The most ruthless, badass bounty hunter in the galaxy. I've been a huge Star Wars fan since the age of 5 or so, always thought this guy was cool.

The Purple Monkey is my avatar because that was my handle when I first appeared in the community. Based on my e-mail address, which in itself came from an old Simpsons line from when the teachers went on strike... "purple monkey dishwasher"

Then, I was bumped by Yahoo for mismanaging a group I started... when I re-registered, I became a purplemonkey2000... which I shortened to PM2K... but the monkey stayed! :D

Even though mine is actually a picture of actor Gavan O'Herlihy as General Arig Thaughbaer from "Willow", it's more "me" than an actual picture of me from when I picked it.
To me, the character represents the Eternal Warrior. In the movie, Arig is the General of the last force of "good guys." He is kiled in single combat against the toughest "bad guy", General Kail, leader of the evil Queen Bavmorda's forces. His last words to hero Madmartigan (Val Kilmer) are "Win this war for me." Another one of those scenes that really grabs me emotionally, like the death of Boromir from LotR, or the death of Bulwyf ("Beowulf") from "13th Warrior."

The Eternal Warrior is a concept that is woven through human culture from the Epic of Gilgamesh to "Babylon 5". When the forces of darkness rise against humanity, the Eternal Warrior is called to battle. Authors like Robert E. Howard and Michael Moorcock have explored the concept. Bands like Black Sabbath and Aerosmith have sung about it:

There's no end - there's no beginning -
To the old man's story
Does he still remember me -
From lives gone by
Oh i see his spirit rising
Upon the back of time
I've got nowhere to hide
Will he keep a place for me
He is the king of all kings
The keeper of light
He holds eternity's wings

In his eyes an ocean's burning
Swollen seat of tears

Troubled mind the beating
War drums in his ears
No one ever hears his warning
Am i the one he calls
When they tell me they're afraid
Some say i'll be put away

He is the king of all kings
The keeper of light
He holds eternity's wings
My blood will spill my blood

My blood will spill my blood

In the wisdom of the prophet's
Never ending tale
Open up the eyes
Within your mind, he says
Crowned in his ancient glory
There's a king within us all
Some will say it's all in vain
That he doesn't have a name

He is the king of all kings
The keeper of light
He holds eternity's wings

-Black Sabbath, "Ancient Warrior"

My avatar is a vidcap taken on a mud trip that's now almost two years in the past. Those of you from Deep Sinking may recall that my last avatar looked about like that too...it was just a different vidcap.

Bigger Pictures:

Unedited Clip:

There wasn't much footage taken. And the camera wasn't that great. But the memories from this particular outing are lovely.

Although, if I had to choose between having the mudpits OR remembering forever what I learnt about handling my fetish from this particular mud partner...

I'd be well ahead of the game if I gave up the mud and kept the knowledge.

Well... I think I had already mentioned this in another thread, but my avatar is actually a picture I had made for a contest on DA some time ago. You can see the entire thing here. There's not much of a story attached to it since I through it would make an interesting forum avatar after the fact 8-)

mine shows the kind of scene that draws me to quicksand and other perils, the damsel in distress in serious need of rescue... it's from a series by my friend Kathyrne
