Most of my listening is background to working. My go to Pandora channel is based on 7and5. Davol, Diane Arkenstone, Schiller, Solar Fields, Maria Davis and John Adorney etc. Before that it was a lot of contemporary jazz. If I need to chill, I have a channel based on Deuter, although it could have easily been Liquid Mind.

But I'm still a big prog rock fan; Floyd, Genesis, Rush etc.

One thing I have noticed about this crowd is that big chunks of it gravitate towards music and food service. For my part, I did commercial audio for a stretch and cooked for half of high school and part of college.

My adult children would say, “Hey Boomer,” but my interest in contemporary music began watching the Beatles on Ed Sullivan in February of 1964. The mixture and fusion of rock and folk music in the late 1960’s was something not duplicated since, in my opinion. Add in Motown and you have a great mix. That the Byrds, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Cream, the Fifth Dimension, and the Supremes could all be charting at the same time was pretty remarkable.

I still go to Spotify to listen to a mix of classic rock music from the 60’s through the 90’s. There certainly has been some good music since then, but I guess I’m just nostalgic. Occasionally, I still plug my old Stratocaster into the amp and make some mediocre attempts to duplicate some of the tracks. The interest in music helped to get through 40 years of working as an engineer in the struggling steel industry in Pennsylvania.

lots of classic rock, but one of my kids turned me on to the Dave Matthews Band in the 90s

still love some of the jazz i grew up on (Dave Brubeck was a genius)

but sometimes ya gotta go with Bach & the classical scene

I have a musical diversity that grew over time since I started playing music.

I was an 80’s kid so it started with metal. Slayer, Anthrax, Exodus, Overkill, Megadeth, Metallica. At the same time, I caught the drumming bug when I saw a live performance of Keith Moon with the Who so the classics started coming in like The Stones, CCR, Zeppelin

Tastes refined through my high school years to some jazz, hip hop and R&B. It wasn’t uncommon for you to see me blasting 2Pac, Wu-Tang, Cypress Hill or Busta Rhymes.

Now, my tastes vary by mood and time of day. Gym it is Metalcore and hardcore music like Killswitch Engage or Hatebreed. Mid day, typically more palpable and universal like hip hop, funk or hard rock. End of day is usually something mellow or progressive like Tool, Dream Theater or Floyd lol

Whenever I hear the expression, "taste in music," it makes me think of the phenomenon known as "synesthesia."
