Well, you can rest assured that there is no global warming responsible for it. Well, that's what they said!
I moved near Scotts Valley, Calif. not long ago, and they just got their first tornado in recorded history. In a coastal and mountainous area near the Pacific ocean no less, not wide plains or open space. Say WHAT?

As I mentioned in one of your recent threads, this is expected to be a "once in a generation" event.

Scientifically, no single event can be assumed to be the result of something like global warming. A statistically significant (which means a very low probability of being due to chance), on the other hand, must be attributable to something. This leads to hypothsis formation, predictions as to what is likely if a hypothesis is correct, and then observations to see what happens. A good hypothesis is one that is based on ideas as to the mechanism by which the predicted thing will occur. I am not a climatologist but it is pretty clear that the theory of global warming means that, overall, temperatures are higher by ore than expected due to random chance. This is demonstrably true. Overwhelmingly true. If the temperatures worldwide are warmer, that will obviously affect things such as the amount of moisture in the atmosphere, sea level, and so on. It will affect wind patterns as well. And wind velocities - thre is more energy in warm air than in cold, which is why it is warm. All this predicts things such as more and stronger hurricanes, changes in rain patterns (some place wetter and some drier) and so on. I will predict this storm is NOT a once in a eneration evernt, which is to say it will happen again, sooner on average, than 20 years.

I live in SE Pennsylvania, a less volatile area for weather. However, I am skeptical of the measure of a “ 100-year storm” and a “500-year storm.” It seems we have a hundred year storm every two or three years. And I can recall at least two five-hundred year storms in my adulthood here, and I am not 500 years old yet. It’s raining here, too, but we need the moisture. Good luck with your weather.

It is now 10AM here at my Studio. And it is STILL raining, albeit just a light mist. That means it has been raining, almost constantly, for 115 hours.

Noon. 117 hours. The radar says it has stopped. The "step out on the deck and see for yourself" test says otherwise.

Good thing you are at the top of the hill. Wonder what it looks like in town?
It's a dirty job but I got to do it for 27 years. Thank you.

I drove through Leslie Yesterday. The river was pretty full but within its banks. Same thing in Clinton.
I did get some water in the greenhouse, which has a natural floor, but none in the workshop.
For what its worth, the local water company had a ruptured main somewhere so I woke up this morning with no water. It just came back on a few minutes ago.

Nothing continuous here, but it's pretty much been clouds and rain for about two weeks here now. Good thing is it's cool enough that most of it soaks in the ground instead of evaporating, if we get enough into the water table now we won't have too dry July/August.
