Who Needs A 3D Printer (80% Lower Glock 17 Build)

Materials:
Factory Glock Upper
Factory Glock Trigger Kit
Magpul G17 Glock Mag
P80 PF940V2 Standard Pistol Frame Kit


Tools Used (No, Not Kidding):
Pocket Knife
16oz Claw Hammer
Roofing Nail (used as punch)
Power Drill

You're supposed to use a drill press, an end mill (supplied with the kit) and a fancy punch, but I wanted to prove a point by only using the odd tools someone would have hanging around the house.
Carved the excess material off the lower with the pocket knife (taking it from 80% to 100% complete). Once I got the slide to fit without hanging up I drilled a few holes for the trigger group using the supplied jig.
Tapped the trigger pins into the holes using the hammer and then tapped them centered with the nail so I wouldn't booger up the frame.
Total build time was 2 hours. It walks like a Glock and mostly quacks like a Glock, had a few jams but I think that might be Magpul mags I bought (should've got a factory Glock mag in hindsight).

Nice! I read a few builds of different dummy guns in the old magazine Shotgun News. They also had articles on refurbs and 80% AR 15 builds. Your build actually sounds easier. Sounds like a good review.

This may fall on some sensitive ears so... We all have the 2nd Amendment Right and many simply choose to not to exercise that Right. Freedom of Religion... same thing. (Many get confused with freedom from religion) Freedom of Speech... same thing. There are many Rights that ppl do not exercise and or get confused about. :-/

Good point, probably should've mentioned that this is 100% legal. Federal law in the US allows you to build your own firearms, provided you do not sell, give away, or otherwise transfer them to another person, and you follow all applicable state laws. The lower does have a blank serial plate, I'm probably going to have that engraved to match the Glock serial numbers on the barrel and slide just to make it look official.

You are correct about that. Once you intend on selling it, must have the Serial number. Good point.

Yea....Ken would've loved this.
The way I understand it, is even if you serialize it you can't (legally) transfer it in any way. That probably wouldn't stop one of your relatives/friends from pinkey swearing they made it themselves, but technically it's non-transferable.

In Ken's absence let me say I'm impressed with your work. It's the best home built firearm I've seen since the kit built muzzle loading craze we went through in college. Excluding some serious potato guns anyway.

I had a lot of help from quality parts and an easy 80% design. The earlier versions were a lot more complex and didn't hold up as well, I think this one is their third or fourth design improvement. It's probably hard to stay at that 80% threshold while keeping it at the novice level. They also make lowers for compact/sub-compact Glock models as well as AR15/AR10 lowers.

There are also some really nice black powder kits out there. Every time I go to Cabela's I eye up their Kentucky Long kit, one of these days it'll go home with me.
