Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys. He was 82. Ouch.

From the NYT:

"Brian Wilson, who as the leader and chief songwriter of the Beach Boys became rock’s poet laureate of surf-and-sun innocence but also an embodiment of damaged genius through his struggles with mental illness and drugs, has died. He was 82.
His family announced the death on Instagram but did not say where or when he died, or state a cause. In early 2024, after the death of his wife, Melinda Wilson, business representatives for Mr. Wilson were granted a conservatorship by a California state judge, after they asserted that he had “a major neurocognitive disorder” and had been diagnosed with dementia."

I just saw this story two minutes ago. I went to two Beach Boys concerts in Philly in the late 1970’s (one with Heart as warmup, pretty good concert). Brian was back touring with them, after a hiatus. He was pretty shy and just sat at a keyboard stage right, but he played and sang. I knew he had had some difficulties with performing live and touring. They were a really good band to watch live, although they had two drum kits and a second drummer on some songs; I guess Dennis Wilson wasn’t always in shape to perform some nights, so they needed the insurance.

Brian Wilson’s music speaks for itself. Pet Sounds is a classic album of all time. My favorite Beach Boys song was God Only Knows. I also liked Sloop John B. Brian didn’t write that one, but he composed the really good arrangement for the recording. More sad news that makes me feel just a bit older. RIP.

Mick Ralphs, 81. Perhaps not a big, well-known name in music, but he was a co-founder of the band Mott the Hoople and, more significantly, Bad Company. He wrote or co-wrote some pretty good songs with that latter band, ones that still live with me daily. Good guitar rock music without a lot of overdubbing and orchestral backing. It’s a shame that he did not make it to see Bad Company inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this coming November. RIP.

Bobby Sherman, '60s teen idol from music and TV, dies at 81

Postby BogDog » Tue Jun 24, 2025 6:32 pm

Who else remembers being introduced to this gentleman while watching "The Partridge Family" in the early 1970s?

Who can forget that early 1970s hair style. ;)

Bobby Sherman, the singer and actor whose boyish good looks and sweet if unshowy vocals made him a teen idol in the overlapping worlds of television and pop music in the late 1960s and early 1970s, has died. He was 81.

His death was announced Tuesday by wife Brigitte Poublon Sherman via friend John Stamos' social media.

“It is with the heaviest heart that I share the passing of my beloved husband, Bobby Sherman," she wrote. "Bobby left this world holding my hand — just as he held up our life with love, courage, and unwavering grace through all 29 beautiful years of marriage. I was his Cinderella, and he was my prince charming. Even in his final days, he stayed strong for me. That’s who Bobby was — brave, gentle, and full of light."

He had a few hit songs,"Julie do you love me" for example. But I believe this was his biggest: https://youtu.be/QJOuTr0BXb4

RIP Bobby.

I also remember Bobby playing Jeremy Bolt on the TV series Here Come the Brides, kind of a late 60’s-type big cast drama - he was one of three brothers who ran a 19th century logging company in early Seattle. Hokey but good series, and he was pretty good in the part as the youngest brother (a similar part to Michael Landon’s Little Joe on Bonanza).

The key word being 'widely'. Yea, he was good.

For a minute there, I thought it was the same Bill that narrated Anchorman. But that was Bill Curtis.
