OK, I'll do it by bands:
First love - The Beatles. Nuff said.
Next up: AC/DC, followed very closely by Black Sabbath (all incarnations, mind you)
Blue Oyster Cult followed - a band everyone called Metal, but they always struck me as a Doors/Grateful Dead/Sabbath mish-mash....
My teens and twenties were METAL METAL METAL - Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Deep Purple, Rainbow, Ozzy, Dio, Whitesnake, Motorhead, Accept, Scorpions, Metallica, etc.
On the flip side, some of my big bands in that period were Heart, Fleetwood Mac/Stevie Nicks and (in particular) The Bangles (very close to the Beatles musically)
Not a big prog fan, but I do love Rush, excluding one or two albums I just cannot stomach...
The 90s Lilith Fair thing turned me on to Joan Osbourne, Meredith Brooks, Jewel and - in particular - Sheryl Crow
Grunge did little for me - there were a few songs here and there - I always thought Alice in Chains were the most musically superior of all of those, and even they annoyed me after a while...but overall, the movement made me have movements.
90s Metal? White Zombie, Pantera, Fear Factory were faves...as were Rob Halford's solo stuff - Fight and Halford - and Geezer Butler's solo band, GZR
Recent days still include all of these folks, but also I have a deep appreciation for the Blues - BB, Johnny Winter, Samantha Fish and real love for that Little Old Band from Texas, ZZ Top....

Re: What taste in music do y'all have?
I became sort of a casual Metal head in high school in the early to mid '80s and after graduating in '85 I was pretty much all-in on it. Priest, Maiden, all the bands EVysther listed. Hair Metal too. And, of course, KISS.
I'm really happy I was born Gen X.
Kids today call us "Boomers" (incorrectly), but what do they know?
Like Bob Seger said, "Today's music ain't got the same soul."
Here's a little heads up for EVysther and any other Metal heads here who might not be aware of them: check out a band called Primal Fear. If you like Judas Priest and Accept, you will not be disappointed. They've been around since '98 - I don't know how the hell I missed them, but I just discovered them a few years ago. I've been listening to almost nothing else since. \m/

Hey sixguns....I'm actually aware of Primal Fear...these guys are HUGE Priest worshippers, I agree...Accpet, too....they filled a big gap when Priest/Accept were not doing all that hot musically...

I love a little bit of everything, though I tend to gravitate toward classic rock, metal, and '80s and '90s alternative. My ballet background has also given me an enduring love of most classical music. So a random shuffle might have me jumping from Iron Maiden to House of Pain to Brahms to Dobie Gray to Johnny Cash.

I like most music but I gravitate towards the 1960s, 70s and 80s.

Dio Sabbath doesn’t get the appreciation it deserves I feel. Everyone can recite Heaven and Hell but Mob Rules is *chefs kiss*. It was possibly one of my favorites and Dehumanizer was way ahead of its time when it first came out. “Computer God” still gives me the feels.

Dehumanizer didn't leave my CD player for most of 1992. Saw the tour three times. Heaven and Hell is my second favorite Sabbath disc, behind only Volume 4, and *all* of the Dio-era albums rank in my Top Ten for Sabbath. 'Nuff said.
