I'm at my mechanic today waiting on a new set of tires and overhear the following conversation......
"Ma'm there is no way you changed that oil every 5k. When we drained it there were chunks of sludge falling into the catch can."
"What do you mean drain?! You just hit the button."
"The button....?"
"Yea the oil life button in the menu."
"You mean the....oil life readout....?
"Yes! I always make sure to reset the oil every 5k, even if it's not zero percent yet!"
*silence*

This is what you get when you combine lack of a functional education with the fact that everyone's driving a smart phone with wheels.

One of my favorite and scariest YouTube channels. Favorite just to see how people neglect their cars. Scariest because those same people share the road with me.

Update: Stopped in at my Mechanic today to schedule a transmission fluid change and what do you know? Same red Kia Soul up on the lift with it's engine bay gutted. 2022 with less than 30k on the odometer and it seized up solid. I guess the sludge was the only thing holding it together.

There's a slim but significant chance that engine might show up here - https://www.youtube.com/@I_Do_Cars
He's broken down so many engines that I have seen the inside of both my engine and the engine in the wife's car. If you ever needed a reason to keep up with oil changes ....

Re: Error 404 Oil Not Found
A number of years ago, my dad made a very regrettable and expensive mistake!
On our farm, he would store Roundup herbicide in plastic containers that used to be used for motor oil, because they had a semi-transparent strip on one side with measurements, which made measuring out the chemical rather easy.
As a precaution, he marked the containers "Roundup" for proper identification. Then, one year, after he put fresh motor oil in the family car, the engine started making strange sounds, at which point, he suddenly realized his mistake!
Both Roundup and fresh motor oil were the same shade of brown, so it was hard to tell the difference when he was pouring.
When the engine was opened up, sure enough, the Roundup had CRYSTALIZED inside the engine, and the cylinders were all scratched up!
So, he had to replace the entire engine on the black Ford LTD Crown Victoria!

I sink, therefore I WAM!!!!

That is a regularly scheduled program for Saturday night for me because I do a lot of work on my classic cars (and my newer cars, too).
