I'm determined to stay on MacOS.

Well, I do whine about the price of Macs and won't do it unless it'll pay for itself in design work, but I can't whine about the Mac itself. Very stable. Those things are as solid as rocks.

It's too bad that it is still a Windows world out there.

Not forever, maybe. I migrated from Mac to Windows way back in 2000 (bought the first Windows system after finding Kaol's Ol' Sinkin' hole) and I didn't question this move as long as it mostly just kept working. When my computers went to Computer Heaven, they died of old age.

You are right that most people aren't that technical. They point, they click, they expect stuff to just work. This means that the OS needs to compensate for the general non-computer-oriented minds of its most ordinary customers. It needs those people to be comfortable, not thirsting for a new solution.

My Windows system actively shot itself in the foot.

The other thing that they're screwing up is that they're overdoing the spyware big time. I'm okay with a bit of it. Ads pitched at me show more dogs than footballs. But I didn't need or want my own Windows "advertising ID" to uniquely track every last keystroke, click and point.

Okay, it's time for me to settle down. I am typing to you from a cast-off Linux laptop with a missing C key. People throw out lots of good tech.

I was an avid Apple-2 user and a big fan of the company when Jobs introduced the first Mac and dropped support for all their existing Apple users cold turkey around 1984-85. Since then they have done other things that kept me away. Their self-indulging actions with their phones just reinforces that. Nice computers, messed up business attitudes.

It's been PC for me since then.

My experience was pretty much the same as Bogdog. I was an Apple II user and, in fact, a producer of software for the Apple II. Apple's early policy of an open system made that possible. When they came out with the Mac I inquired about the info needed to produce software. They no longer gave that away but wanted $5000.00 for it. I switched over to the IBM-PC, which used MS-DOS and was still an open system.

I do agree that Microsoft has a history of releasing software that is not really quite finished and using the public as a test bed. Windows XP was actually pretty good. After that the next one was a disaster. Windows 7 was very good and I still use it on three of my machines. Windows 8 I by-passed completely. I only have 10 on one machine and that machine is a very limited ($300.00) model and so is not really a fair comparison. None of the three Windows 7 machines has ever been updated since they were purchased. They are never connected to the internet, so they cannot be updated. All I can say is they seem to work for what I use them for.

Glad you got it fixed. I've seen so many people have issues like this that I don't even bother trying to upgrade, I copy all my important stuff to an external drive, format to wipe clean and do a fresh install. Saves time in the long run.
