In the original Dr Who series, a particular common vegetable appears in both the first and last episodes for one of the Doctors. What vegetable and which doctor?

Not sure if you mean the original (first) Doctor, or just the first couple of Doctors. I'll assume it's the latter and say that the fifth Doctor, Peter Davidson, wore celery on his collar.

Gonna go out on a limb and say Matt Smith with the Apple in the Kitchen.
The difference between theory and reality is that, in theory, there is no difference between theory and reality.

One thing I always wanted to know; what happened in England while the Doctor was off-world that led to the extreme right-wing Liberal-Conservative coalition dictatorship that was in power at the time of the "Green Death" Incident? What was the "Stephens Process" that the government was relying on to solve all England's economic problems? When did they pass the law that allowed for the arming of factory security guards with riot guns? What were the provisions of the Emergency Powers Act? And how the HELL did Jeremy Thorpe become Prime Minister? (All I can say to that last point is, thank every god from Crom to Maitreya for Norman Scott!)
"Aaaaaarrrrrrggggghhhhh! Quicksand! I'm sinking! I'll go straight to the bottom of.......GLURP!"
(a month later)
"Ugh! Yukkkh! Ptui! I'm out of it! I'm free! Not even quicksand can defeat the power of.....the Eye of Zoltec!"
