Sounds like a the location for a cheesy SyFy movie. I'd watch it

Or a particular H.P. Lovecraft story.

It's missing the cyclopean ruins, so it can't be Ry'leh.

Apparently people are visiting the island and lighting matches cause they hear "hissing" sounds which turned out to be methane leaking through the mud. Absolutely brilliant.

I'm floating the idea of crowd funding the recently retired Pacific Princess aka: The Love Boat and loading it with Playmates, Hooters Girls, Cheerleaders, and the Brazilian Olympic Volleyball Team for a journey to this island. Just to make sure we don't miss it I'm going to hire the former captain of the Costa Concordia. We'll have a mini-series reality show that is an homage to Gilligan's and Fantasy Island.
