Well, I managed to dream about quicksand...

Postby Viridian » Tue Apr 30, 2013 8:56 am

Yes, I say "managed" as if it was an attempt. A few of you may have read that it is possible to influence what you dream and whether or not it is lucid. I entertained the thought a while ago, without success, and haven't thought anything of it since.

Until last night. After a long session of writing another chapter to my recent QS story, lo and behold, I actually had a QS dream. It had nothing to do with what I was writing about, funny enough, but the scene was pretty cool. As with all dreams, the details are hazy. The first 'scene' was something like a practice run with a blonde woman being trapped and sinking into moist brown earth that moved around like waterlogged peat. The second 'scene' was similar, except it was a dark-haired women who submerged, the blonde woman crawling over to pull her free but dragged under, and 'me' pulling on her ankles until both their heads reappeared. I remember the quicksand was dry and gritty, like rich soil with blades of green grass coming out.

That seems to be the only QS dream I recall. Anyone had one of these?

All I ever managed to dream up was some ankle-deep, brown mud. I recall actually wishing for it to be deeper while still inside the dream (and the mud). I woke up before I found any deep spots *sigh*.

There have been occasions that I would dream of coming upon a quicksand shoot with a few models, and some cameramen (I've never met any of the producers in person, but my mind came up with somebody called "Dave"). Of course, I'd jump in with the models. The neat thing about dreams is that you can breathe under quicksand, much like breathing underwater! :D

Is it weird that I have never, ever, dreamed about sinking? Like not once?

I have dreamed about quicksand and mud on occasion from time to time. In fact, on the morning of Monday, March 5'th, 2012, I had a rather vivid dream where I remembered all the details after waking up, and I posted a description of it here. 8-)
I sink, therefore I WAM!!!!

In fifty years I've managed to dream about it maybe half a dozen times. The first dream I can recall must have been inspired by "Guns of Darkness" when I was five or six. Only once did a dream involve myself and the others were about women, the last of whom was Cameron Diaz if I remember correctly. I have spent so much time day dreaming about it that I don't think there is much left over at night.
It's a dirty job but I got to do it for 27 years. Thank you.

I dream about quicksand somewhat regularly.

Roughly half of the dreams are free-flowing adventures where I sink anywhere from knee deep to chest deep. Sometimes in the company of others, sometimes not.

The other half are borne of anxiety. I'm at a shoot and something has gone wrong with the location, or I had no tape (back in the day) or no charged batteries or no cameras at all...

I've had 4-5 quicksand dreams in my life, 2-3 of them as a result of myself manipulating a lucid dream, as Viridian was talking about. When I was coming of age I occasionally had lucid dreams, and always tried to steer them towards the creation of quicksandy situations. I think usually I would wake up before I had success in exerting complete control over the dream.

I don't know if I ever really had a "full submersion" quicksand dream, usually in my dream there is some kind of quicksand in the area, or I find a promising quicksand spot, and spend the rest of my dream trying to figure out how to get in it safely or something really frustrating like that :) I remember one dream where I was alone in some empty park, and I KNEW (somehow) that there was quicksand there in the park, but I couldn't "remember" where the quicksand was, so I was just running around frantically trying to find this quicksand... ugh, it's really kind of a tease to wake up from an irritating dream like that.

I've thought about trying to train my brain to have more lucid dreams, but it sounds like a lot of work. Also, I just don't dream as much anymore... at least, I don't remember anything about my dreams when I wake up.

Funny, I had another quicksand dream shortly after my last posting.

I was following my old college buddies down some river on some kind of canoe / kayak trip. For some reason, there was sense of urgency, it was getting dark and I did not know where we were going. I was too slow in my canoe, and my friends were vanishing, far ahead of me, pulling away from me, leaving me behind. One of those frustrating dreams that just makes you feel bad and uneasy inside.

So at this point, I was trying so hard to keep up with my friends, and I suddenly notice naked people on the riverbank bobbing up and and down quite sexually in some kind of riverside quicksand. It looked like 2 girls and 2 guys, waist-deep in juicy mud and obviously all of them are feeling quite good about it. And I'm so tempted to just stop and investigate what is going on, you know, "HEY, mind sharing some of that quicksand you got there?" But the river is pulling me downstream, the sun is setting, my friends are leaving, the sense of urgency and lack of choice was very uncomfortable. The introduction of quicksand was just another frustrating factor in the dream. I had to follow my friends or be lost forever on the river, there was no choice.

Dream was probably a metaphor for my yearning to have more opportunity to see my old friends, who were very inaccessible in my dream. I thought it was pretty funny that my brain would throw quicksand into dreams just to spite me, but hey, overall I look back at it and laugh. I mean, I always marvel at what crazy scenarios my mind can invent when it's sleeping!!
