Just for the record, I certainly feel attacked! Of course, the attack is subtle, but my posts are certainly being "hounded" by, well, let's not have a flame war, let's just say, what's that phrase, dark forces? But note this, I'm cool with anything Dave has to say, he pays the bills here and I, and all of you, are his guest. But I extend no such courtesy to anyone who is not an actual producer in their own right, and I can sure thing of someone here who speaks with the almighty authority of a producer yet who has never sold a video of his own!

So if I disagree with you and confront you with facts or at least my own opinions and experiences then I'm attacking you? We can't have a civil discussion?...

EDIT - Wait a minute...I have written, directed, produced, and photographed more individual scenes and even complete collections than you ever will. Just because they were sold by everyone else doesn't mean anything. You aren't even aware of how wrong you are about that.

I think you will find that "producer" refers to the person, or persons, who take responsibility for overall supervision of a product. A producer, for example, is responsible for all aspects of a production, such as sire selection, hiriung or appointment of director, and other talent, transportation, arranging for equipment, sets, set decoration, food service, and so on. A producer need not personally handle each task. For example, on-camera talent and crew might be hired or appointed by the director since they generally work under the direction or the, well,... director. A producer also need not be, and very commonly is not, the source of finance for a project.

In the above sense, Duncan is certainly a producer. I can attest to his being in overall supervision for at least two shoots done here at Studio 588 and I know indirectly of others done near Chester, though I was not there as a witness. Aside from that I can attest that he has been a director, written a large number of very creative scenes, acquired wardrobe, and even played various roles, and he has done all of the above for several different quicksand vendors, my own company included.

Well according to my definition, which I think is fair, you appear to be such. In the narrower sense of a producer of quicksand-related material, I have no basis upon which to render an opinion. In any case, my opinion is just that.

What IS quicksand-related material is probably also a matter of opinion. If a character is sinking then I guess its pretty obvious, but its less so when one or more characters is simply in mud. As far as I am concerned, the mud has to be deep enough for sinking under to at least appear to be a potential reality, but again that is just one man's opinion.

Yes, but the evidence has been erased, by you, due to concerns about piracy.

These concerns are not fantasy. If you release it, it will indeed be pirated and spread around for free. No producer here has escaped, including your own self. It's how people are.

It's possible to make money anyway and to fight back with takedown orders. But it is true that the technology to prevent this completely does not yet exist.

Today you are in exactly in the same position that I once was in regard to the issue of being believed about my gender. "Show me pics!" they cried to me, "Without pictures, you are only a man pretending!"...but there were (and it was intentional on my part) no pictures for them to see.

Well, hopefully Phil will speak up for himself, but, just a little light reading on the UMD forum will readily turn up what's up with Phil. And I'll assume you're making a joke about "day jobs" so will take no exception to it beyond noting that Phil has always had a full time job of some sort to the best of my knowledge. And I would not be too quick to count Phil out of the game, he has taken several breaks over the years.

And, on the piracy front, I recently acquired a program that will embed a hidden stenographic code in a video that will supposedly survive being re-encoded into another video format. It will be a while before I can get around to testing it fully, but, I've certainly not been idle and will eventually devise a distribution method for my videos. In fact, I am at the stage where all I really need to start putting them out in the near future is a suitable person to distribute them. I do not wish to do distribution again personally and I've been seeking someone to handle that end of things. To date there have been no suitable candidates who I felt I could trust to deliver high quality customer service and not try to rip me off. Any takers?
