Re: Name that scene - Quicksand Scene Trivia
This will sound a little picky, but having seen all four Psycho movies, I have to wonder whether the "swamp" into which Norman Bates dumped the bodies was actually quicksand or just dirty water. Although the first movie implied the dumping ground as a "quicksand" of swamp muck, I do not recall anyone describing it as "quicksand" though perhaps the original novel did. In Psycho II, as I recall, scuba divers located the car but said it was stuck in deep mud below the water, so they chained it to retrieve it from below the surface in a "schmaltz" throwback to the first movie's end scene. I have never heard of scuba diving in quicksand which suggests a "dirty water" interpretation. In Psycho III, a fight between Bates and an antagonist in a moving car resulted in the car and both men driving into the swamp and sinking in dirty water. Bates managed to drown the other man before escaping, swimming along the bed of the water, soon encountering one of his dumped female bodies and screaming before making it to the water's edge to safety. I recall no swamp at all in Psycho IV so it has no bearing. All of these events suggest Bates dumped his victims into "dirty swamp water" rather than "quicksand."

No, and sorry about the deletion.
I wracked my brains trying to figure out what the answer to the trivia question was. When you solved it, all I could think of was "Nice!". It was in response to both your skill/knowledge and how clever the 'puzzle' was - at the same time.
Afterwards, I realized that I might have been stealing Fred's thunder with that.

I recall (not specifically enough to remember where though) a reference or synopsis of the original movie where the swamp was referred to as quicksand. It's a nighttime scene, so there is some latitude. But considering how close it was to the motel, and how certain Norman Bates seemed about the idea that the car would not be discovered, it lends credence to the idea that it was quicksand.

Fred is not into Thunder except in recordings of actual storms, so that is not an issue. Just don't try to steal my lunch.
There are two pieces of evidence that are compelling about the sinkinig being in quicksand. First, a number of pieces about the movie describe it as such. Second, and even stronger at least from a literary analysis point of view, is that there is a quicksand scene in the original novel. In that case it is a nightmare suffered by 'Norman' in which his mother apparently arises from quicksand. I am not certain of those details as I have read a description of the original but not the original.

Okay, that's a relief. That's what I thought you meant, but when I saw the post was deleted, it occurred to me that you might have thought that I was calling either Fred or a previous poster a psycho, since I didn't put the title in quotes or italics. I have to say that I laughed at the notion, since that would be a pretty funny misunderstanding. Kind of like the misunderstanding they had in every single episode of "Three's Company." Only funny.
