If I was younger, prettier, in better shape (mostly just prettier), the second I found out about the people who make these videos, I’d have been on the phone, shooting out emails, etc., to find out how I could volunteer my services as a damsel in distress. That ship has probably sailed, though, so I live vicariously through the movies, TV shows, and the works you guys produce. You are all greatly appreciated. I still hold out hope, however, that some day it will be me who is sinking and struggling in the mire, pleading for someone to save me.

Needing to be watchable by general audiences filled old media with veiled eroticism that was all the more so because of this creative constraint. There's that aphorism that goes something like "everything is about sex, except for sex, which is about power". Let power dynamics carry a scene, and the audience will picture all manner of explicit things vividly on their own. But they'll only be doing so because the power dynamics are so exquisite.
